    Oriol Calvo Vergés is a cultural and arts manager and curator specialized in ceramics, historical, traditional and contemporary. He leaded and managed many art and cultural projects, many of them at international level. He worked with several institutions, both private and public, with the quality and excellence as main goals. He has wide abilities in organization and leading working teams as he demonstrates in many projects.

    He is the Director of the Ceramics Museum of Argentona (Barcelona) since 1986, director of Spanish Association of Cities of Ceramics and Administrative Director of European Grouping of Ceramics Cities. He managed two European projects: Cerasmus+ (for education in ceramics) and CLAY (for improving the SMEs ceramic enterprises). He has collaborated as fundraiser and organizer of several projects in the Association of Ceramists of Catalonia. Since 2018 he is president of the association Amics de Josep Puig I Cadafalch, devoted to this Art Nouveau Spanish architect, art historian and politician.

    In the frame of the International Academy of Ceramics, he is the representative of the Southern European Countries and the Treasurer (1986-2024), he was General Coordinator of the 47th Congress and GA (Barcelona 2016) and is participating actively in the organization of Portugal 2024. He leaded the new structure of progressive economic contributions of the members, much fairer than the previous one. In July 2024 he has been elected President, position that will take force in September 20.

    He has lectured extensively on issues related to ceramics, art and crafts, in Italy, Turkey, France, USA (NCECA), China and other countries. He is the author of the publications “Imatges of Càntirs" (Ceramics in art) and the Guide of the Ceramics Museum of Argentona, “Càntirs Valencians de Fantasia” (Ceramic vessels from Valence) and author of many articles in magzines.

  • Jacques Kaufmann


    Jacques Kaufmann was born in Morocco and holds dual French and Swiss citizenship. After ceramics studies at the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs in Geneva, he opened his actual studio nearby Geneva, in France. Jacques Kaufmann was the chief of Ceramic Action Project in the frame of the Swiss Cooperation in Rwanda. He has taught at the Applied Art School in Vevey, Switzerland, in the position of Head of the ceramics department. Member of the International Academy of Ceramics (IAC/AIC) since 1983, he held positions in the Council of this Institution, from Council member, Vice President and President of the IAC. He is actually an Emeritus President of the IAC. He is also the visiting professor of former central academy of arts and crafts, China Academy of Arts, Shanghai University and other Chinese universities. Numerous solo and group exhibitions of his works have been held worldwide.

    Cao Yalin graduated from Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute, majoring in design. At present, he specializes in the research and creation of purple sand pottery art in China Purple Sand Museum, and serves as the deputy chief Arts and Crafts Artist. He is now vice president of Jiangsu Ceramic Professional Association and member of Jiangsu Senior Technical Title Evaluation Committee. He has been a judge of international and national ceramics exhibitions for many times. Over the years, he has created many purple sand pottery works and has written many academic papers. Many of his works and papers have been published in magazines and journals at home and abroad. Many of his works are collected by the National Art Museum of China and cultural institutions and museums at home and abroad. What’s more, his works were twice selected for the International Ceramics Competition in Mino, Japan. He has won gold and silver awards in several important national art exhibitions.

    On the basis of the combination of theory and practice, combined with the exploration of various arts at home and abroad at the same time, he deeply studied the law of artistic creation of purple sand pottery art and constantly explored the practice. He has formed his unique artistic concept: grasp the tradition, create the modern, integrate the culture, and pursue originality. His works are rich in language, innovative, beautiful in form, profound in connotation, elegant in style, with a distinct modern art flavor, unique in the purple sand pottery art circle.

    Wei Jie is currently a professor, doctoral supervisor and the dean of the School of Design at Jiangnan University. She has been recognized as the National Young Talent, awarded as the Top Ten Educators of Industrial Design in China, and selected as the "333 High-level Talent" in Jiangsu Province as well as the Young and Middle-aged Academic Leader in the " Qinglan Project" in Jiangsu Province. She is specialized in design research and practice in visual culture communication, brand innovation, as well as traditional creation.

    She has been elected as a member of the National Steering Committee for Graduate Education in Design, a member of the Art Design Professional Committee of the Vocational College Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education, the vice president of the China Industrial Design Association, the deputy director of the Education Working Committee of the China Arts and Crafts Society, and the deputy director of the Steering Committee for Art Graduate Teaching in Jiangsu Province. During the past years, she has led and completed a number of national research projects and published more than 20 academic works and textbooks. She has won the second prize of the National Teaching Achievement Award, the second prize of the 9th Outstanding Scientific Research Achievement Award by the Ministry of Education, the first prize of the China Light Industry Outstanding Textbook Award, and the first and second prizes of the Jiangsu Philosophy and Social Science Outstanding Achievement Award.

  • WAN LI YA


    Wan Liya was born in Qingdao, China in 1963. He was one of the earliest artists who participated in contemporary ceramic art in China and established a personal ceramic studio. Wan Liya participated in many important ceramic art activities, which had an important influence on the modernization process of China ceramic art. He has been engaged in ceramic art for 35 years since 1989, In 2020, Wan Liya was elected as the IAC Council Member- representative of China. and his works pay attention to the proper combination of material characteristics and personal concepts. His works reflect the artist’s deep thinking about the long tradition of China ceramic art and his inner feelings about the drastic changes in contemporary human society.

    He won the silver prize of the Gyeonggi International Ceramics Art Biennale in South Korea.

    His blue & white porcelain work A Thousand Miles Landscape was permanently collected by the British Museum in 2019.
